Durable High-Quality Gabion Boxes
Gabion Boxes
Gabion Boxes are wire mesh boxes to contain stones, rocks, or concrete inside. Its applicability is in civil engineering, landscape design and construction for such applications as slope stabilization, retaining walls, controlling erosion and improving the aesthetics of outdoor spaces. Woven or welded, the basic purpose of a Gabion box is to support structure and enhance stability while blending with the natural environment through the drainage created and the colonization of vegetation that occurs over time.

Types of Gabion Boxes
Welded Mesh
When such wires are welded into a rectangular structure, a uniform mesh pattern is achieved. Fabrication and construction of Gabion boxes utilizing welded mesh follow two major standards:
ASTM A974
This standard focuses on three processes: specifying coating requirements and parameters for Gabions with particular emphasis on types of coating to be used and a process of applying them.
BS EN 10223-8:2013
Clients receive more flexibility when designing gabions by this standard. It establishes the minimum viable wire diameter for each Gabion construction and provides the right coating standards suitable in the prevailing environment.

Gabion Welded Mesh Box Sizes
- There are a wide range of Gabion Welded Mesh Box sizes to be selected from, depending on your need. Make sure that box dimensions can vary according to the chosen mesh opening size.
- For panels having 100 x 50 mm mesh, the overall size will give figures divisible by 100 or 50. For example a 1000 x 1000 x 1000 mm box is available and all used dimensions allow ±20 mm to admit the spirals’ adjustments.
- Provided that the mesh has 75 x 75 mm, the boxes’ dimensions will be divisible by 75. For instance, a 900 x 900 x 900 mm box may accept +/-20mm adjustment from spiral construction.

Double Twisted
The assembly of the double-twisted hexagonal mesh gabion boxes is through the looping of the steel wires together in hexagonal layout. Through the double-twist process, these containers are flexible and structurally stable and would therefore survive if individual wires fail, rendering them suitable for use in erosion prevention and retaining structure projects.
Standards and Specifications
The manufacture of such gabion boxes is governed by two important standards: ASTM 975 and BS EN 10223-3:2013. Even though ensuring solid performance in both cases, the standards lay emphasis on separate elements:
ASTM 975
- Targets particular application requirements and requires due coating requirements.
- Provides the exact information about the size of wires and the dimension of selvedge wires that are critical for upholding the effective protection of the product.
